It seems like Sumter Beauty College students have been
winning competitions forever! Although many of the actual
trophies have been moved from the premises (we needed more
space!), there are still quite a number here; one from as early as
1978! The school and its students normally participate in three
different state-wide competitions each year. There is a
competition held each February and October that is sponsored
by the South Carolina Association of Cosmetology Schools, and
one in March or April that is sponsored by the Association of
Cosmetology Salon Professionals (Formerly NCA of SC). While
students are not required to compete, they are certainly
encouraged by the full staff.
Becoming involved in competitions is a great learning
experience for you, the student: not only does it allow you to
perfect different skills and see what other students from around
the state are able to do, but it allows you a chance to shine and
show off your own special talents!
Competition is hard work! Once a student has committed to
participating in an upcoming competition, there are countless
hours of practice, practice and more practice. When the
practice is done, the dress rehersals begin! It's a thoroughly
exciting, frustrating, but oh so rewarding time! Both the
instructors and our students put forth every effort to do their
very best work so they represent themselves and the school
well. And when all is said and done ... The competing students
are so proud of the work they've accomplished, and we are so
very proud to call them our own!
