Sumter Beauty College abides by the U.S. Department of Education's Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as follows:
Students (or parents of a dependent minor) are allowed to view their school grades, hour records or files at any time, within reason. They have only to ask a senior staff member, and it will be handled as soon as possible. Students will be asked to view their files in the office so a staff member can answer any questions that may arise, and to avoid any papers being misplaced accidentally. It is the policy of Sumter Beauty College to protect the privacy rights of its students. No information will be released without the written consent of that studentand/or guardian, if the student is a minor. This includes information about attendance, hours, grades, financial status, etc. The only exception(s) would be for information required by government agencies, licensing or accrediting bodies, and current educational or administrative staff members, in which case no release is required. There are situations where the school may attempt to contact emergency numbers listed in the student file in the event a student has been absent for a period of time. If there are other family members who make financial payments to the school for tuition, etc., it may be necessary to discuss these situations with them. This is discussed with all students enrolling at Sumter Beauty College, and the students sign acknowledgement and receipt of this policy. No other information is released about the student without his/her written consent.
Records of the school will be maintained for a minimum period of 5 years after a student's completion or last date of attendance. The school does not publish a student directory.
